Loaning Out Fishing Equipment and Opportunities Across Ontario for Over 25 Years
The OFAH TackleShare Story
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) initiated the TackleShare Program in 1998 to provide new and intermediate anglers with the opportunity to experience fishing by eliminating common barriers such as lack of equipment and knowledge about angling. This innovative program allows participating individuals to borrow fishing gear, including a rod, reel, and an assortment of tackle, in the same manner they would borrow books from a library. This is made possible through TackleShare Loaner Sites located across Ontario.
The primary goal of the TackleShare Program is to make fishing accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation or previous experience. By offering free access to fishing equipment, the program encourages people of all ages to explore the joys of fishing, fostering a greater appreciation for Ontario’s natural resources and the importance of conservation.
Whether you’re a first-time angler or someone looking to get back into the sport, the TackleShare Program is an excellent way to start. The loaner sites can also help more experienced anglers who forgot to pack their fishing equipment for a trip, or are having second thoughts about not packing their gear, to get some fishing in. By removing the barriers to entry, OFAH is promoting a love for fishing and encouraging more people, particularly young people, to participate in this rewarding outdoor activity.
OFAH TackleShare Program Loaner Sites
Since its launch, the TackleShare Program has become a significant success with over 140 loaner sites across Ontario, enabling thousands of new anglers to enjoy recreational fishing. Participating anglers can borrow a rod, reel, and stocked tackle box, similar to checking out library materials, all at no cost. These loaner sites are conveniently located at many Ontario Parks, public libraries, conservation areas, and community organizations.

Fish Along with OFAH
In addition to providing equipment, the TackleShare Program also offers educational resources and youth activity sheets to help anglers learn the basics of fishing.
The Fish Along with OFAH YouTube channel features a variety of instructional fishing videos that cover topics such as casting techniques, knot tying, and fish identification. These resources are designed to build confidence and knowledge, making the fishing experience enjoyable and successful for everyone involved.
