Ask a CO: On wearing hunter orange during a bow hunt

A reader asks do I need to wear orange on my stand, or just walking in and out while bow hunting for moose?

Q: I plan to bowhunt for moose in an area where it will be open season for bear (rifle and bow). Do I need to wear orange on my stand, or just walking to and from it? I will be hunting from both a tree stand and ground blind. Dave Hubley, Orillia A: If there is an open gun season for deer, elk or moose, you have to wear hunter orange while hunting. If the only big game seasons that are open are bear and bows-only moose, you do not have to wear orange unless you are hunting bear on the ground. If you are not hunting bear and there is no open gun season for deer, elk, or moose, you do not have to wear hunter orange. However, hunter orange is always a good safety practice.
